Fairfax County Police Department Sobriety Checkpoint Nets One Arrest

Posted on Jun 13, 2011

A DUI/DWI roadblock or checkpoint operated by the Fairfax County police for three hours (from 11:30 PM to 2:30 AM) yielded only one arrest for DWI.  723 motorists passed through the roadblock.  All motorists were stopped and drivers were checked to assure that their abilities to drive had not been impaired by alcohol or drugs.
While very few drivers are arrested for DUI at checkpoints, even fewer are actually convicted as these cases are very difficult for prosecutors to prove.
